Recently there has been several high profile cyberattacks at large US retailers and most recently at hotel chains involving 3 Chicagoland area hotels. These data breaches were sophisticated cyberattack operations that appear to indicate that hackers are a step ahead of cyber security efforts. The following are some tips to maintain your personal credit card security:
- Report any lost or stolen cards immediately
- Review accounts regularly to ensure there are no unusual charges
- Do not use your Social Security Number as your username or password
- Use secure websites for transactions and shopping
- Sign the back of your card as soon as you receive it
- Be sure that you get your card back after every purchase when shopping
- Be aware of your surroundings when using an ATM
- Put your money and ATM card away before you leave the ATM
- Avoid showing any money that you withdrew from the ATM
- Memorize your PIN number and do not write it down
