Civil Courtrooms at the Daley Center could be closed around the time of the NATO and G8 Summits. No final decision has been made regarding the closings but discussions have started. The Public Building Commission, chaired by Mayor Emanuel, will make the final decision.
There is a meeting scheduled for the week of February 27th to discuss the security and safety of the Daley Center during the Summits, especially on May 19th when one of the first protest permits was granted to start on Daley Plaza. Included in this meeting will be Chief Cook County Judge Tim Evans, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez, and other law enforcement officials.
Also, the City of Chicago has not finalized the number of sworn police officers that they will need during the Summits. Police Supt. Garry McCarthy has mentioned that he will need about 850 reinforcements to assist with around 250 of these officers coming from the Illinois State Police.
