This morning, on August 10th, looting occurred throughout Chicago’s Magnificent Mile and other parts of the downtown area. The looting began shortly after midnight as people began breaking into stores along Michigan Avenue.
The City of Chicago temporarily suspended train and bus service into the downtown area during the early morning hours but service has since resumed. In addition, Illinois State Police blocked off ramps from expressways leading into the downtown area. Bridges across the Chicago River were raised as well, with the exception of the bridge on LaSalle Street which was reserved for emergency vehicles.
CDOT Bridges and Expressway ramps downtown are now open. Various street closures are still in effect throughout the loop area however.
More info and updates will be forthcoming on the events.
