Titan Security Group attended the Chicago Public/Private Task Force (CPPTF) teleconference on October 8th, 2020. Organizations that participated in the meeting include the Chicago Police Department, BOMA/Chicago, Office of Emergency Management (OEMC), ChicagoFIRST, Chicagoland Apartment Association (CAA), Chicago Cultural Properties Security Group (CCPSG), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), CPIC Fusion Center (CPD CPIC), and the Federal Executive Board.
Below is a recap of what was discussed during the meeting.
Public Safety Updates
- Chicago Police Department, 1st District:
- Central Control Group focusing on Loop operations is being reconstituted under Deputy Chief Pigott;
- Robberies are down year-to-date, vehicle thefts are up (largely due to delivery drivers leaving keys in cars);
- Special events and protests are ongoing but down slightly
- Chicago Police Department, 12th District:
- District crime statistics have been steady overall year-to-date;
- Protests have been smaller in size;
- AirBnB issues are ongoing but declining
- Chicago Police Department, 18th District:
- District crime statistics steady overall;
- Similar vehicle theft issues to the 1st District;
- Protests are ongoing but smaller in size
- OEMC:
- Providing regular updates on protest activity;
- Critical infrastructure protection planning is proceeding;
- ChiBiz alert signup is continuing
- DHS:
- Cyberattacks and election security remain a top priority;
- Additional physical security assessments available for polling places
- CPD CPIC:
- Monitoring open-source media for election-related protests;
- CP3 portal messaging/email issues resolved
Vaccine Planning
- September Seasonal flu vaccine distribution underway, seen as a test for larger COVID vaccine program;
- An 80% vaccination rate is the eventual COVID vaccination target for the city;
- March window is appearing realistic to initiate
ChicagoFIRST Tabletop Exercise
- Held October 6th and October 7th;
- Focused on multiple hazards including civil unrest, cyberattack, insider threat;
- Intel regarding extremist political violence is a serious concern
Winter Weather and Lakefront Planning
- Army Corps of Engineers is alerting the city of record Lake Michigan water levels for this time of year;
- The new alert platform is active, text “chilake” to 78015 for water level updates
Election Day Planning
- Extensive contingency planning is underway locally;
- The concern is a disruption of a polling place and/or unclear election results;
- Private sector seat at emergency operations center (EOC) will be activated
