Chicago’s Building Owners, Retailers Prepare For Summits
Properties are currently planning for the worst and hoping for the best for the NATO/G8 Summits. Building managers are looking to increase security as well as ensuring that extra provisions, such as window board up materials, food, and overnight provisions, will be on site in case of emergency. BOMA buildings will be informed via two alert systems.

Chicago Police Horses To Get Riot Gear
Mayor Emanuel’s office is looking for bids for police horse riot gear. This gear will be used on the City of Chicago’s 30 horse unit during the NATO/G8 Summits. The horses have not previously worn riot gear.

Obama Lines Up Hotel for NATO/G8 Summits
President Obama has chosen the Sheraton Chicago Hotels & Towers as his headquarters for the NATO/G8 Summits. The Sheraton has previously been the site of Former President Bill Clinton’s Headquarters for the 1996 Democratic Convention and 2002 Trans-Atlantic Business Dialogue as well as being the venue for a fundraiser for President Obama’s re-election bid. Hotels are now hoping that other delegations will also finalize plans on accommodations during the Summits.

Burnham Harbor To Be Closed To Boaters During Summits
1,100 boat owners will need to find places for their boats during the month of May as Burnham Harbor will be closed. Boaters may keep their boats at the harbor at 31st Street during the time period that Burnham Harbor will be closed. Westrec Marianas currently runs the harbor and will be meeting with the Chicago Park District to discuss the concerns of boat owners who will be affected.
