CFD:
- Reported an increase in blind elevator rescues in high rises
- Calls have been up, due to water leaks, reinforcements from outside the downtown area were brought in
- Multiple fire protection systems are out of service due to the extreme cold this winter; this was caused by ice in the system and broken or frozen pipes
- Responded to 518 automatic alarms in high rises downtown during extreme cold
- CFD responded to each of these buildings to assist in resetting their systems by defrosting or draining them
- Over 30 buildings lost fire protection, sprinkler capability
- There was a shortage of fire guards, if you building needs fire guards please reach out to your account manager to see if Titan can assist
- Property Managers, Security Staff and Building Engineers should notify 311 when the building is back live
- To help prevent this in the future the CFD recommends keeping stairwells warm by opening doors or placing heaters, or keep water moving through the system by cycling it every 24 hours
Chicago Public Private Task Force (CPPTF):
- Focus on training vehicle rental industry to help employees identify suspicious activity and counter vehicle ramming attacks
- Except for airports, most rental agencies are privately owned and corporate can’t mandate security requirements such as employing security
- As of now, employees are trained to engage in probing questions to determine if there is suspicious behavior that should be reported to their regional security manager who then reports it to law enforcement
- Temporary drivers licenses pose a challenge
- Cash transactions have been eliminated and credit cards are required to rent a vehicle
